When Eastern FC began their search for a new head coach following the departure of Roberto “Chino” Losada, who was appointed as head coach of the Hong Kong national team, the club required a replacement who could continue their long‑term plan of developing young local talent and building a sustainable football culture.

Drawing on our strong network within Spanish football, we identified Manuel Torres Núñez (Manu Torres) as the ideal candidate to lead Eastern FC into their next chapter.

Identifying the Right Profile

Eastern FC’s management outlined a clear direction: they wanted a coach who would

  • emphasise youth development,

  • implement a modern tactical identity, and

  • bring first‑hand experience from Spain’s elite academies.

Through our direct connections in Spain, we quickly recognised that Manu’s background aligned perfectly with these objectives. Having spent almost two decades at Villarreal CF, one of the most respected academies in La Liga, Manu gained extensive experience in training methodology, technical development, and player psychology.

Villarreal are known across Spain for their complete player‑development structure and were the first club in the country to employ sports psychologists across every age group. This foundation shaped Manu’s vision for integrating data, analysis, and holistic development — the same principles Eastern are looking to build upon.

From Villarreal to Hong Kong

With Eastern actively seeking a coach from Europe, our Spanish‑based network enabled an immediate and direct introduction between the club and Manu Torres. Because this connection came through professional relationships, no intermediaries or agents were required — communication was clear, efficient, and built on mutual trust.

This direct pathway allowed Eastern to secure a coach who combines Spanish tactical expertise with a strong understanding of youth football — experience that will strengthen the club’s technical foundation and long‑term player development programmes.

About Coach Manuel Torres

  • Nationality: Spain

  • Date of Birth: 31 October 1975 (50 years old)

  • Coaching Licence: UEFA Pro Licence

  • Previous Clubs: Villarreal CF, CF Alcalá, FC Andorra, FC Vizela, El Salvador National Team

During his 18 years at Villarreal, Manu contributed to the development of players such as Rodri, Pau Torres, and Gerard Moreno, who later became key members of the Spanish national team. His coaching approach combines tactical precision with individual player growth, characteristics that translate naturally to the competitive environment of the Hong Kong Premier League.

A Spanish Influence for Eastern FC

Manu Torres’s appointment marks a new stage for Eastern FC, one defined by structured youth integration and the adoption of Spain’s proven development methodology. Under his leadership, the club aims to stabilise its tactical framework and gradually raise the technical level of its local players.

This collaboration illustrates how Spanish football’s coaching philosophy — built on detail, structure, and professionalism — continues to inspire clubs around the world. It also demonstrates how our network can connect Spanish expertise directly with projects that share similar footballing values.

Building the Spain–Hong Kong Bridge

Our role throughout this process highlights the growing connection between Spanish coaching professionals and Asian clubs seeking long‑term development rather than short‑term results. We specialise in facilitating these partnerships directly, using our insight within Spanish football to match coaches and clubs whose philosophies align in terms of youth development and technical growth.

By bringing together Eastern FC and Manu Torres, we have contributed to strengthening the football relationship between Spain and Hong Kong — one that promises to deliver both sporting progress and cultural exchange.
